Singin’ In the Kitchen: Vocal Instruction

Sessions are fun, meaningful and energetic—focusing as much on style, intention and character as they do on technique (breath control, posture, resonance, vibrato, etc.) For beginner to advanced students, professional instruction in the Kitchen is engaging for young students as well as the young at heart!  To find out more about our vocal instructors, visit Our Instructors page.

Tickling the Ivories: Piano Instruction

Kitchen Music instructors have the talent and skill (and patience!) to help the budding pianist in your family–young or old–discover the joy of adding music into your life. For younger students, basic skills (posture, hand position, reading music, chord progressions and an introduction to a repertoire from the classics to contemporary tunes) to intermediate or advanced players (music theory, improvisation, jazz, boogie woogie, or the  good ol’ twelve-bar blues are a few of possible areas of study).
Learning basic mandatory skills mainly through contemporary popular tunes is how the lessons stay fresh and engaging–particularly for the young ones. For those who want to study the classics, we are also able to help students prep for RCM exams/University auditions as well. Jam Sessions in the Kitchen

Kitchen Music Instructional Studios offers a weekly facilitated jam session for adult guitar players who have passed the beginner stage of learning to play, and who want an opportunity to learn the nuances of playing with others in an informal but supported environment. Small group (max 5 people). Fun? Yes! It’s a great way to become inspired toward those evenings around the campfire or winter holiday get-togethers.
For adults.  One-hour weekly sessions.
Summer Semester: Tuesday and Wednesday night jams, July 10 – August 29, 2012.

Jam Session for Teens
Social theory guru Malcolm Gladwell says that devoting 10,000 hours is the key to mastering your ability and to really shine. We think that’s probably true. So here’s your opportunity to clock in a few on your way to becoming one awesome bandmate! Learn what it takes to play in a group, improve your skills and have some fun.  Maximum: 5 jammers per session.

RECORDING ARTS WORKSHOP—SUMMER 2012

How to Make the Most of Your Recording Gear, with instructor Clayton Moore

In this intimate and focused four-hour summer workshop, learn how to properly set-up a mic for recording, get a professional sound from your instrument and leave with a demo recording featuring the techniques that you’ve learned.
All in one afternoon!
Here a re a few of the things you’ll get to explore during the session:
Setting up your Digital Audio Workstation
arranging tracks, using bus/send features, file formatting, learning the signal chain/workflow
Mic Technique
discover a variety of microphone types (dynamic, condenser, ribbon), polar patterns, stereo mic techniques, mic’ing acoustic instruments, mic’ing amps and ambient mic’ing
Mixing Tracks in your DAW
learn to create a stereo balance, panning techniques, using EQ and compression, and understand the use of artificial reverb/delay effects
Preparing Audio for CD
basic mastering techniques, formatting audio for CD/digital download
Half-day workshop (4hrs) only $159.
Teen sessions and adult sessions available.
Maximum 2 students per workshop.

An Introduction to Digital Recording

(ages 12 to 17 group lessons)   (adult private lessons)
This program teaches the basics of recording, editing and mixing music. This is an awesome opportunity for the budding engineer and/or musician who wants to learn how to use their computer to create quality recordings. Note: If you are an adult who is interested in this program, give us a shout and we can arrange private sessions for you!
Individual  sessions run 90 minutes.
Note: Students are not required to have recording software/equipment at home in order to participate in these lessons.
90 minutes $70  (private).   2 hour sessions, please contact the studio.
